It's a balancing act!

Still getting the hang of this blogging - obviously lol

My work life balance is well, all out of balance. The scale is leanging way too far to one side these days making it very difficult to find "me" time. But after a fairly interesting and large meltdown last week I think I'm in the right frame of mind to bring balance back into my life.

Good news! I signed up for my first run event of the year, the Neon 5k! Going to run this with a friend for her birthday. I'm excited to have something to work towards, a goal of sorts. It's still 2 months away but the point is that I have something on the calendar and now I MUST run! :)

I've also started a new tracking system. After 2 years of tracking on paper I am finding it utterly...unmotivating?? Not sure of the right word but I need a change. I still need to track my food intake because I'm diabetic and I have to keep that in control - especially since I've been a bit off track for the past few months. My doc will be none too pleased but that's ok - I have a month before I see him and I intend to reverse some of the bad in that time :) So perhaps it won't be as bad as it could have been! Which is ALWAYS a good thing.

Today is a 2 mile run - aiming for 22-24 minutes. I am by no means a fast runner. When I was running regularly and at my peak I was at 10 min/mile. I would like to be there again but seeing how I've been slacking for the past year...I'll get there again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I ran before I had a chance to post this - I ran a sub 12 min mile (11.70) - though just barely :) But the point is I did it. Always helps to take my chocolate lab to push me that last 1/4 mile, although today, I'm not really sure who pushed who (I'm thinking I pushed her - poor thing looked at me like "uh hey Ma, we missed our turn to go home!" to which I replied "Come on! Let's go! Almost done!" and of course she gave me an exasperated look lol but she finished strong - that's my girl!!).

So here's to today! And getting it (the run) done and settting priorities (I blocked an hour every day at the same time on my work calendar for a quick run and lunch - work/life balance ya know)
